Plantar Facia

Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that causes heel and foot pain due to inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot.

Sign and Symptoms

  • Overuse and Strain: Repetitive activities, like running or jumping, can lead to tiny tears and inflammation in the plantar fascia.
  • Foot Structure: Both flat feet and high arches can increase the risk of plantar fasciitis.
  • Obesity: Excess weight puts more pressure on the feet, increasing the strain on the plantar fascia.
  • Tight Calf Muscles/Achilles Tendon: Tightness in the calf muscles can affect the mechanics of the foot and ankle, contributing to plantar fasciitis.
  • Improper Footwear: Shoes with poor arch support or worn-out soles can also contribute to the problem.
  • Age: Plantar fasciitis is more common in people between 40 and 60 years old.
